While we consider our primary expertise to be the management of marketable securities, we also recognize the importance of taking into consideration our clients’ other assets. We are far more effective in working to develop an overall strategy if we are aware of what other investments a client might possess.
Jim Gamble’s vision in 1956 was to create a firm that could do much more than exclusively offer portfolio management advice. He wanted our firm to be a resource for our clients’ needs in other financially related areas as well. This part of the financial services arena has come to be known as “wealth management” and has taken on an increasingly more sophisticated and important role within our firm. It involves proper insurance and estate planning, college funding, personal and business retirement planning as well as other wealth transfer issues. All of our clients cross paths with these issues at some point in their lives, and we think it is important that they have a professional resource available to them.
Wealth Management Consulting is the “overview” approach to ensuring the financial well-being of our clients. It is an additional part of the traditional services of portfolio management offered by a Registered Investment Advisory firm. It complements the existing investment advice a client receives by adding a more complete financial picture.
Our firm has a significant association with a pass-through community foundation which will assist our clients with their charitable contributions. Many clients find that making a gift of appreciated securities to this foundation is a convenient way to make annual donations to qualified charities.
Over the years, more and more of our clients have asked us, as individuals, to act as trustee or be named as successor trustee for their individual trusts. Similarly, we are regularly asked by clients to serve as executors or co-executors under their wills. All securities and accounts are registered in the name of the trust or estate and are subject to the same audits. The beneficiaries and heirs receive the same detailed reports and accountings if they desire them. Where necessary, we render accountings for lawyers and file with court supervised trusts. While most of these accounts come from clients who have had long associations with us, an increasing number are coming from attorneys, CPAs or other financial professionals who are familiar with our firm and philosophy.
Our firm is not named as trustee or executor but rather the individual principals are designated by name. In those cases where a corporate trustee is required, we can recommend certain banks and trust departments to fulfill this role.
