Portfolio Management
Portfolio Review and Recommendations

Every portfolio is monitored to ensure adherence to investment guidelines and to respond to an ever-changing environment.

In addition to the portfolio manager who has primary responsibility, a second investment counselor will also be familiar with the client’s portfolio in order to provide coverage at all times.

We prepare client appraisals quarterly (or more frequently if required). These appraisals are mailed with investment related comments to our clients. In addition, every year, clients are sent reports needed for the preparation of tax returns.

Security Transactions

We have excellent working relationships with several brokerage firms to ensure efficient order execution at competitive commission rates. Existing brokerage accounts may be maintained where appropriate and desirable.

Research

Our research team meets with the portfolio managers on a weekly basis to discuss market viewpoints and individual stocks. The portfolio managers have a combined total of over 275 years of experience in the business and more than 160 years with Gamble Jones. This highly experienced team provides valuable insights to the round table discussion as various ideas and opinions are shared by all of the participants.

We have developed a “Focus List” of companies from which we work to create our clients’ portfolios. This dynamic list, which we are continually reviewing, is comprised of the stocks we believe will best maximize the appreciation potential of our clients’ capital. Companies are added or removed based upon the opinions of the research team and portfolio managers.

Gamble Jones Investment Counsel has access to numerous independent research tools to assist us with our in-house security analysis. Subscriptions to electronic research tools, numerous analyst reports, and various other investment sources contribute to both our fundamental and technical analysis of stocks and bonds.

Our fixed-income department invests exclusively in investment grade instruments, which include: municipal bonds, corporate bonds, U.S. Treasuries and U.S. Government agency paper. Funds are invested in fixed-income securities with laddered maturities. Fixed-income investments are in most cases held until maturity.
